Hello Camp Milldale Campers and Families!
Wow! What a great first week! It was hot hot hot!!! But we stayed cool with extra swim, activities inside in the air conditioning, drinking lots of water, and the awesome breeze we get at camp always helps!
We started our week with lots of getting-to-know- you activities, CRAZY HAT DAY, and a camper favorite – WACKY LUNCH WEDNESDAY! Our wacky food items this week were: knishes, fig newtons, and gummi fruit snacks!
Campers got their camp t-shirts today! We’re all so excited to wear them together. We celebrated Shabbat by units during lunch with our Israeli Shlichim leading the blessings, and handing out grape juice and challah – YUM!
A new Milldale Messenger will be posted every Friday afternoon. On odd weeks (1,3,5,7) the messenger will be from your Unit Director and on even weeks (2,4,6,8) you will be able to see individual bunk Messengers from your child’s counselors!
We hope you all have a restful Shabbat and a wonderful weekend!
Week one is done, but the fun has only just begun!!
Dori, Lara, David, Dianne, and the Camp Milldale team.
Beresheet
Hello Parents!
Kindergarten and First Grade have had an amazing first week at Camp Milldale. We’ve spent time in the kitchen making Mexican Pizza. We also swam, played games, and made interesting milk carton art projects! We’ve also been keeping cool learning to swim and playing in the sprayground. We are all looking forward to having a fantastic week two.
Happy Camping!
Rob Hiken-Beresheet (K/1) Unit Director
Olim
Olim is off to a great start! We’ve been having a fun time making new friends and building our Olim pride! We’ve been keeping cool at the pool and sprayground, making delicious Mexican pizza in cooking, and creating beautiful snow globes in arts and crafts. Our third graders have been trying new activities during Chugim such as archery, African drumming, and even paddle boating! On Tuesday, we all showed off our creative sides by wearing our craziest hats! We have so many fun activities at camp to keep us busy all day—please have your child leave his or her personal toys at home so everyone can fully enjoy what camp has to offer! Keep up the great work with the sunscreen and water bottles—we can’t wait for another incredible week!
Shabbat Shalom,
Adria Schlanger-Olim (2/3) Unit Director
Tzofim
Tzofim campers and counselors had a great first week. Bunk 4D boys had a fun and competitive game of dodgeball with sports camp. Bunk 4A girls had a blast at the lake and showed off their vocals at music. Bunk 5/6A girls worked together with Milldale's great ropes course staff. Bunk 5D boys had a great time playing tennis-baseball with sports camp. Bunk 6D boys were awesome at the GaGa court. Campers and counselors took advantage of the Milldale pools everyday to stay cool in the heat and were very thankful for that! All Tzofim campers received permission slips this week for our trip to Players Amusement Center on Friday, July 2nd. We are all looking forward to an amazing second week of camp!
Mike Slaughter-Tzofim (4/5/6) Unit Director
Sports Camp
Sports campers and counselors had a great time in their first week of camp. It was surely a hot one but everyone got to cool off in the awesome Milldale pools everyday. This week was filled with great activities. There were games of dodgeball, hockey, GaGa, World Cup Soccer, basketball, tennis-baseball, and of course the camper favorite: 2 square! Sports campers were the first this summer to try out the new Milldale paddleboats at the lake and had a blast. The sprayground and archery were favorites as well. All sports campers received permission slips for our trip to Players Amusement Center on Friday, July 2nd. These need to be returned by Monday. We are all looking forward to an exciting 2nd week at camp!

Arts Camp
Arts Camp campers found some great ways to keep cool this week. They were able to choose activities ranging from sculpting robots and copper pendants, creating ceramic plates, and drawing with pastels. Some of the campers made beautiful swarovski crystal bracelets while others tried their hand at parted drawing. Rehearsals started for our end of the summer show with the number “Razzle Dazzle” from Chicago. Wednesday, we had a special guest - portrait artist Hayley Blank came talk to our group. She showed the campers her work, and had a great question and answer time, while demonstrating “how to draw a face.” We are looking forward to next week’s field trip! Have a great weekend!
Ava Frank-Arts Camp Director
Bogrim
Bogrim had a great start to the summer! They got right back into the “camp groove” and have been enjoying various activities such as swimming, dance, and music. We’re all looking forward to more fun summer activities and trips!

CIT
The CIT’S have had a great first week of camp. They have been working with their bunks and getting to know all of the campers. Everywhere you turn around at camp the CIT’S are helping to run activities. On Tuesday we had our first training session where we discussed the CIT’S responsibilities and did some situational training. For our Thursday training session we discussed programming and discussed possible programs for the future. The CIT’S also helped create ideas for flagpole. The CIT’S have great idea’s and are really enthusiastic about helping out with camp programming. On Friday the CIT’S helped lead flagpole and got camp all pumped for the day. The CIT’S all seem to be excited about camp and are looking forward to the coming weeks.
