Berasheet (Kindergarten and 1st Grade)

Wow, what an amazing week we had at Camp Milldale! We started the week off with a bang on Tuesday with the Baltimore Ravens Mascot, Poe, visiting camp. Each bunk had the opportunity to meet with and shake Poe's wing! This week in cooking our bunks got to make fresh ice cream from scratch. They added vanilla or chocolate to milk and sugar and then got to shake shake shake it up to form a delicious creamy treat. And last, but certainly not least on Thursday we had "Cool Vehicle Day" at Milldale. With Huge Trucks, Cars, Bikes, and a Helicopter each and every child got to see some pretty amazing vehicles. And on Friday, we had a special visit by an Ice Cream Truck during the Shabbat program. Each child got to pick a cold treat to cool down from such a hot and exciting week. I hope all of your children had as much fun as I did this week!

Olim (2nd and 3rd Graders)

It seems like Week 3 of camp has flown by! Olim started off another fantastic week with a visit from Poe, the mascot from the Baltimore Ravens! Everyone had fun cheering for the Ravens and showing their purple and black spirit. The hot temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday meant more time in the pool for free swim, which we love! On Tuesday, we worked together in the pool to make a unit-wide whirlpool. The highlight of our week was definitely Thursday’s Cool Vehicle Day! We had an incredible time exploring all the different cars and trucks. Many of us liked posing for pictures on the police motorcycle, feeling the chilly atmosphere of the refrigerated truck, and learning about (and even petting) the dogs from the K9 unit. Olim is looking forward to more fun adventures still to come this summer!

Have a great weekend!

Tzofim

Week 3 was very exciting. Camp Milldale had its first ever truck day. A police helicopter landed on the baseball field during flagpole Thursday morning. Campers were sounding sirens on the police motorcycle and state trooper car. The fire truck, swat vehicle, and Giant refrigeration truck were all camper favorites. Trying to stay cool this week Tzofim campers made homemade ice cream in cooking and it was delicious. Many campers took advantage of this week’s water polo Chugim at the pool to stay cool as well. 5/6A counselors Rebecca and Jenna led the Puffy Paint Chugim and the campers had a blast. Also, this gave campers and counselors a chance to chill in the air conditioning while showing off the painting skills. We are looking forward to a fun filled, cooler week 4 at camp.

Bogrim

Even though it was a shortened camp week, Bogrim had an exciting few days. On Wednesday we took a trip to the Baltimore Aquarium. Some of the favorite things we saw were Seahorses, Sharks, Dolphins, Jellyfish, and Puffins. Our counselors did an awesome job engaging the campers with questions and exploring the Aquarium. It was a great way to stay cool in the heat too! We made it back to camp in time for some downtime in the bunk and snack; everyone had so much fun! To top that off, Milldale “Cool Vehicle Day” was so exciting for our campers! We can’t wait to see what next week brings!

CIT’s

The CIT’S are continuing to make an impact on camp as well as learning through there training sessions. On Tuesday during our training session a guest speaker from CHANA came in and talked about dating violence. The CIT’S learned all about this issue and had opportunities to ask questions. Wednesday was a very fun day for the CIT’S. We all went to Player’s Indoor Amusement Center. We played mini-golf, laser tag, and many other fun activities. On Thursday the CIT’S continued to work on planning the camp carnival as well as talk about more ideas for fun programming. The CIT’S got camp excited for Friday by leading a dance for flagpole. Then during the Friday activity they helped lead fun Bar/Bat Mitzvah games. The CIT’S are doing great this summer and I keep hearing complements about their performance.

Arts Camp

This week may have been short, but it was packed with creative activities for our campers. We celebrated purple and black day with the rest of camp by making Raven flowers pots. That morning was topped off when the Raven mascot Poe arrived in Arts Camp in time to see the campers working on them.
Jane's activities included circle weaving that looked like giant flowers and a painting and drawing project in the style of artist Marc Chagall. Dana worked with the campers on recycled plastic wallets made from shopping bags. She also worked with a small group of campers on photographic principles, and then took them out to shoot some pictures. They were able to see their work on the computer and make final adjustments. Jesse has been working with a group to teach them the lyrics to some of the songs included in the end of summer show.
The highlight of the week had to be Thursday. Our campers joined the rest of Milldale exploring all of the great trucks that were at camp. Our young photographers even got the opportunity to shoot some photos additional photos. That afternoon artist Stacy Levy came to speak to Arts Camp. She originally trained as a medical illustrator. The campers were fascinated by her drawings. A year ago she took up doll making. She not only brought her dolls to show, but also showed the campers how the parts were put together. She was kind enough to stay and give a demonstration of how she makes the heads out of polymer clay. The sample she made will be baked and have a permanent home in arts camp.

We look forward to seeing everyone at next weeks Kesher late stay.
Till then,
Ava Frank – Arts Camp Director

Sports Camp

Sports campers had an amazing week 3. On the first day back from the holiday weekend we had a visit from Poe the Raven. Many campers wore their Raven’s jerseys and got to play some flag football with Poe. Even though this was a short week, it was packed with loads of fun. Thursday was Camp Milldale’s first ever Cool Vehicle Day. Campers watched as a police helicopter landed on the baseball field during flagpole. Everyone had a blast climbing in the swat and fire trucks. Sounding police sirens and watching the trash truck lift a dumpster like it was a feather were camper favorites. GaGa and hockey kept us out of the sun providing much needed shade on the hot and steamy days this week, as well as extra time in the pool and air conditioning. We are all looking forward to a cooler and very exciting week 4.
